Description

Glashutte Original SeaQ Blue Dial 39.5mm 1-39-11-09-81-70

Glashutte unveiled the 1-39-11-09-81-70 in 2019 using inspiration from the legendary 1969 Spezimatic 200 dive watches. At exactly fifty years apart, this particular model is as close as you'll get to that iconic timepiece in terms of size, stance, and detail. Although it uses a panorama date, which is larger and more contemporary, making it more ideal for the 21st century. The unique SeaQ feature is stainless steel and 39.5 millimeters in diameter and 12.5 millimeters in height, making it very accommodating and easy to slide under any cuff. Its lug to lug dimension is as compact, measuring a mere 47 millimeters. So it's an outstanding watch with proportions that suit virtually all wrist sizes and tastes. It’s especially appealing to people who favor traditional vintage dimensions and looks.

Bracelet & Clasp

The watch is impressively specified as the bracelet is modern, which is part of what makes this piece so stellar. While it pays tribute to history, the fit, finishing, and technology are the latest of the 21st century, perfectly striking a balance between retro and modernity. It has an appealing matte surface that offers a brilliant mirror image. The bracelet is substantial, and from the bottom, you’ll note that each link is removable for more precise sizing. Also, no solid end links are projecting beyond the lug, so you can pull it strap straight down around a small wrist. The gaps between the center links are a welcome event for your wrists on a hot day or business trips to a warmer climate. More so, a hidden adjustment mechanism uses a simple hook and lock technique to unfold. Within that apparatus is an extra link that gives you an additional centimeter you can use to fine-tune the sizing or pull over a diving suit. The single-fold deploying utilizes a twin trigger release to the clasp, giving you extra security. So it's ideal for people that participate in aggressive sports. It's also water-resistant up to 200 meters and a good fit for underwater athletes.

Case

It channels the best of the past with its vintage-inspired case, which features several appropriate cues, including the vertical satin finish and a very narrow beltline. The case itself is minimal and has a cordless crown profile. On the other hand, it has polished outer knurling that uses a ceramic insert to better resist scratches, which shines a light on its modernity. The action of the unidirectional rotating bezel is crisp and precise without being too vocal. Its enlarged triangular index with its retro-inspired broad arrow minute hand instantly makes it a convenient 0-60 minute timer. This feature makes it more accurate than most chronographs, which only show 30 elapsed minutes. Other modern refinements include its stop-seconds and rapid set system that allow you to change the date and time with ease. Its lacquered blue date disc is another subtle difference between this modern piece and the 1969 version with a white date disc.

Dial

The dial is yet another amazing blend of past and present. Its image is of 1969, and its gentle simulated patina has remarkably equal coloration. It uses a lovely font but employs a super-luminova to avoid the consequences of a tritium fade. The sapphire cap is a wonderful camber that creates a vintage-like bubble off-axis impression. It’s truly a modern dive timepiece in the image of the past.

On the other side of the dial, you can see the original image of the Glasshutte logo and trident, making it even magical for people with conservative antique tastes without sacrificing the modern movement on the inside. It includes a 39-11 complement caliber with an automatic winding movement backed with a 40-hour power reserve. It boasts of beating away at a modern 28,800 vibrations per hour while running on a mere 25 joules.

Bezel

The 39.5mm Glashutte Original SeaQ has a unique feature, where the bezel and seconds hand have loomed. That is uncommon on many dive watches, making this piece stand out as a full-featured vintage-inspired diver. It has a classy blue dial and a bezel with a blue ceramic inlay that gives it a more refined look.

In conclusion, this timepiece embodies everything we love about 1969 semantics with better movement and a better casing. Everything about this timepiece, from its movement to its style and even the dial, completely takes you back to the past with all the perks of the future.
